How Dr. Bushong Works

Listening first, for as long as it takes

A first appointment with Dr. Bushong is mostly you talking and him listening.

He asks about what brought you in, your health and any medicines you take, how you sleep and eat, school or work, and who is at home. Then he explains what he thinks is going on in ordinary words, says what the options are, and asks what you want to do. Nothing is decided for you, and nothing is prescribed before that conversation has happened.

Because this is a solo practice, the person you meet at the first appointment is the person you see at the next one. Your history does not have to be retold each visit.

Training And Credentials

Where the training comes from

Board certification in both adult and child and adolescent psychiatry is unusual in a valley practice — it is what allows one physician to see a teenager and a parent.

Credentials

Board certification: Board Certified Child, Adolescent & Adult Psychiatrist. Certification is held in psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Medical degree: Doctor of Medicine, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, 1984.
Residency: Psychiatry residency at McLean Hospital.
Licensure: Licensed to practice in Colorado, in psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Psychopharmacology: Practises as a psychopharmacologist — the way prescribed medicines work in the body is his particular field.

Who He Sees

Children, teenagers and adults

Care is offered across the whole family, at each person's own pace.

For a child, a parent is part of the conversation throughout. For a teenager, there is time to talk alone, with clear limits on what is shared with family and what is not. For an adult, sessions are scheduled around work and family rather than the other way round.

Family consultations are available with or without the patient in the room — often useful when parents want to think something through before anyone else is involved.

Time alone to talk, and clear limits on what is shared.

Adults

Therapy, medication review, or both.

The Practice

Two offices, thirty minutes apart

Craig P. Bushong, MD Professional LLC is a solo practice with offices in Aspen and Carbondale, open Monday to Friday, 9AM to 5PM by appointment.

Care is offered through psychotherapy and medication management, and most people are seen at whichever office is easier to reach.

This practice is private pay. We do not bill insurance, and you are responsible for payment for all services. We can provide a statement you can send to your insurance for reimbursement.
